From our friends at the Learning Economics And Finance Network:
Pride and Prejudice is a romance classic and consistently appears on lists of most-loved books. But have you ever wondered if Jane Austen’s heroine, Lizzie Bennet, could have been a successful hedge fund manager? The answer to this seemingly strange question can be found in Mihir Desai’s new book, The Wisdom of Finance, Discovering Humanity in the World of Risk and Return. Dr. Desai, a professor at Harvard Business School, uses examples ranging from Mel Brooks to Shakespeare (and of course Jane Austen) to show how finance and economic concepts are woven in the narrative of popular culture.
But this book is more than a book; it is the jumping off point for a contest offered by the LEAF Network: “Exploring the Wisdom of Finance.” The contest challenges students (either as individuals or in teams of 4) to follow Desai’s footsteps by producing a four-minute video in which they explain and dramatize how a finance concept is part of a short story, novel, play, movie, or television show.
Everything you need to know about how to get students started in producing their video in on our website: Wisdom of Finance Video Contest
