I was extremely honored to attend the PwC-KWHS Seminar for High School Educators on Financial Literacy and Business in Chicago this week. PwC and Knowledge@Wharton High School brought together 100 business educators at the University of Chicago for 2.5 days of lectures and workshops. We heard from professionals from the Wharton School of Business, PcW, Google, and had the opportunity to network with other business educators.
What a great experience this professional development opportunity was! Here are my top takeaways:
- Knowledge@Wharton High School – I will be totally honest here, I did serve on the small team last summer to write the personal finance lesson plans for Knowledge@Wharton, but the site has so much more than just lesson plans and in more subject areas than just personal finance! There are videos, glossary definitions from Wharton professors, articles, and competitions. I highly suggest checking out the site to see what resources you could incorporate into your curriculum.
- Earn Your Future curriculum – PwC has assembled a great collection of financial literacy lesson plans that are categorized by grade level and subject area. Full lesson plans include slide shows, handouts, assessments, and even an online component to assess student retention of material.
- As educators, we are our own best resources! Going to an event like this, the best part undoubtedly becomes networking with educators from other parts of the country. It’s refreshing to speak to others who have a different perspective on the exact same subject. I’ve come home with great resources from the sponsoring companies and from the fellow attendees.
