The Center for Economic Education at Salem State University will host the Spring 2017 Mass Econ Challenge and the Spring 2017 Mass Finance Challenge. These online challenges are sponsored by the Mass Council on Economic Education and are free. Any Massachusetts teacher can register and sign up his/her high school or middle school teams. Registration is open now!
- The Mass Econ Challenge (https://econchallenge.unl.edu/) will be available for students to take from March 27 to April 7.
- The Mass Finance Challenge (https://financechallenge.unl.edu/) will also be available for students to take from March 27 to April 7.
Once you have registered as a teacher, you can begin to create student teams of three to four students in the appropriate division. The National Econ Challenge is held at the State, National Semi-Final, and National Final levels for high school students and at the state level for middle school students. The National Finance Challenge is held at the State levels for high school students and middle school students this year. The arrangements for the National Finals and prizes are still in flux and do not include reimbursement for travel to Kansas City. It is hoped that the National Final will return in its original form soon.
Important Dates for the Spring 2017 Mass Econ Challenge:
- Tuesday, January 17th to Sunday, March 27th, 2017 – Registration is open for the Massachusetts Econ Challenge. To register, choose Teacher Registration. Teachers may review rules and register teams of four high school students. There are no team limits, so this makes a great class activity.
- Monday, March 27, 2017 through Friday, April 7, 2017 – The Massachusetts Economics Challenge is Online. The student competition is taken online at your school. See Rules.
- Tuesday, April 11, 2017 – State Champions are announced and invited to participate in the National Semi-Finals.
- April 25, 2017 (April 20, 2017*) – State Semi-Finals – The State Champion teams for the Ricardo and the Adam Smith divisions compete with other states to advance to the National Final. If you are one of the Massachusetts semi-finalist teams, the paper and pencil competition will be conducted at your school. *Test date for schools that are on spring break on April 25, 2017.
- Saturday, May 20th to Monday, May 22, 2017 – National Finals- The top four teams in each division from the National Semi-Finals will compete for the national title in New York City.
